Congregational Officers for 2010 Elected

Chair — Eric Brooks

Eric BrooksEric has served most recently as leader of the Evangelism Team where he has overseen various outreach events and our improved on-line communications.  He has also served on the Nominating Committee and as an acolyte in worship.  He has been attending CoH for about three years and joined in early 2009. 

Eric is a graphic designer and has been involved in various community groups, including the Cimarron Alliance Foundation, OKCYU, and the effort to start a new community center. 

 

 

 

  

Vice Chair — Larry Cassil

Larry CassilLarry has participated in our Sanctuary choir for about three years now.  He also serves on the liturgy team, reading in worship, and occassionally leading in the prayer of the people. 

He has provided the florals for many special worship services, hosted various fellowship gatherings at his home, and is known as an excellent cook.

In his professional life, Larry is an attorney.  Larry’s religious background is in the Episcopal Church USA before joining CoH this year. 

His partner is Scott Love.

 

 

Past Chair — Marta Patton

Marta Patton

A member of the church since its inception,  I have served as an officer for the last three years, secretary and Chairman of the church board and will continue one more year as immediate past chairman.  I was also involved in the development of our mission and vision statements and have served on the finance team.

I am a born and raised Oklahoman completing my higher education at Oklahoma State University.  I have been employed by the State of Oklahoma for 36 years.

 My partner (also a founding member of the church actively involved in the women’s circle and membership training) and I celebrated our 20th anniversary last April and look forward to another 20. 

Both my partner and I believe strongly that our church has a unique place in Oklahoma City and are committed to seeing the church continue and grow.

Secretary — Dana Poulson

Dana PoulsonDana continues a second year as Secretary.  She has been very active at CoH over the years in a variety of areas — Health & Wellness ministry, St. Luke’s Team, Spiritual Formations Team leader, Finance Team, Nominating Committee chair, Women’s Circle leader, Usher coordinator, UCC delegate, and liturgist.  She is a regular participant in our Formations Class.

Dana is a registered nurse and has considered ministry as a vocation.  She is an avid reader and cares deeply for her cats.  Her partner is Judith Bowman.

 

  

Treasurer — Linda Baker

Linda BakerLinda is a charter member of CoH and has participated in many ministries through the years.  She has sung in the choir, been a liturgist, led the Genesis Circle, and coordinated our involvement with Habitat for Humanity.  Linda grew up in Southeastern Kansas.

I am an Intensive Case Manager for a Women’s Alcohol/Drug rehab facility.  I have a Bacholor’s Degree from Pittsburg State University and an Associates Degree in Drug and Alcohol Counseling from OSU-OKC.  I have been a member of COH since it’s inception.  I have a lovely partner, Judy Hey.  We have been together for (19) years in December.  She is the Health and Wellness Coordinator for COH and has also been a member since the church began. 

 

 

 

Member-at-Large — Dr. Nance Cunningham

Nance CunninghamNance began attending CoH in the fall of 2007 and transfered her membership from a sister UCC church the next year.  She has become very active in our ministries.  Currently, she coordinates our welcome of new visitors, is a liturgist, serves on the Pastoral and St. Luke’s Teams, and was one of our UCC delegates last year.  She has participated actively in service, care, outreach, fellowship, and educational events.  In 2009 a resolution she authored was adopted by the General Synod of the United Church of Christ.

Nance has previously served as the Vice President of the Oklahoma Association.  She completed Clinical Pastoral Education training and has worked as a hospice chaplain. She is currently involved in academic research and writing and has had a number of articles published on medical ethics. 

Her husband and son are Howard and Zev Stein.

 

 

We also elected our 2010 delegates to the Kansas-Oklahoma Conference, who serve as our liaisons to the wider church at the association, conference, and sometimes national, global, and ecumenical church levels.  Nance Cunningham will serve  a second year as a delegate. 

UCC Delegates -- Nance Cunningham & Peter Keltch

Peter Keltch was elected a delegate for 2010.  Peter served as church treasurer the last two years and is currently serving a term on the Kansas-Oklahoma Conference Foundation Board of Directors.  Peter sings in the choir, is a liturgist, participated regularly in the Men’s Circle, has served on the Finance Team, and chaired the Financial Policies and Procedures Task Force in 2006.  Prior to joining the UCC, Peter was an active United Methodist layman for fifty years, involved in many church and denominational committees and leadership positions.  His partner is Philip Grate.

Task Forces Created

UnitedCampaign HopeAt Sunday night’s town hall meeting we created five new task forces to explore changes in the church.  The five areas are: Vision & Mission, Outreach & Service, Finances, Pastoral Relations & Leadership, and Facilities & Alternative Arrangements. 

These task forces will meet for 15 minutes Sunday during Afterglow in order to 1) schedule time for a longer meeting; 2) identify a convener for the group; 3) get the conversation started.

If you did not sign up for a task force on Sunday, please join one this coming Sunday night.

Hefner parkway to Hefner Road.
